Dr. Birkel attended the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. He completed his Podiatric and Surgical residency training at UPMC Pinnacle in Harrisburg, PA, with added credentials in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle surgery (PMSR/RRA). He attended the Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Environmental Science.
