We want to send a big THANK YOU to the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Shippensburg University, and to student Aiden Gonder, for creating new vaccine and supply trays for Keystone Pediatrics!

During the pandemic, Shippensburg University contacted Keystone with the idea of students 3D printing face shields for our employees. Unfortunately, due to funding, the project didn’t happen.
A couple of years later, Monica Heinbaugh, Lead LPN at Keystone Pediatrics Chambersburg, asked Keystone’s Supply Chain department about ordering new vaccine trays for her office. Keystone Pediatrics administers a significant amount of vaccines daily, and nurses use trays to keep vaccines and supplies organized. Their current trays were showing signs of age and were no longer efficient.
After discovering vaccine tray options on the open market were limited, Keystone’s Director of Supply Chain, Stephanie Strickler, remembered Shippensburg University’s previous offer. She contacted Associate Professor Joao Dias, and a partnership was formed.
Mechanical Engineering student Aiden Gonder undertook the project in 2023, and began creating samples with various materials, finishes, and sizes. Over the next year, he tested the trays for durability and longevity, including the ability to withstand the harsh disinfectants used in medical practices. He narrowed down the options based on Keystone’s specifications and presented us with samples. Nursing staff then participated in a trial and survey to decide on the final product.
Earlier this week, the completed trays were delivered to Keystone. We greatly appreciate the dedication and hard work from Aiden, Professor Dias, and all those involved in the project!
