For Pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Kimberly Slider, caring for children has been the focus of her career. After spending more than five years working in Hershey’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse, Kimberly decided to further her education to become a healthcare provider.
“I did not always know I wanted to become a pediatric CRNP,” she said, “But from the start of my nursing career I always knew I wanted to work with kids. I was very inspired by the nurse practitioners I worked alongside in the unit who encouraged me to go back to school to become a CRNP.”
Kimberly’s higher education began with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Gettysburg College before going on to earn her RN and CRNP designations from Drexel University. When she learned of a pediatric nurse practitioner opening at Keystone Health, Kimberly submitted her application and knew during the interview process that Keystone is where she wanted to continue her career in medicine.
“I had been considering several different places to work, but Keystone’s purpose and mission stood out from all the other institutions,” she said. “Additionally, the staff and leadership I met with were all so nice and genuinely kind that I knew I wanted to work in this environment alongside these people.”
When asked about her favorite part of being a CRNP, Kimberly points to the difference medical staff can make in the lives of their patients.
“I love helping children and their parents get through a present illness by either educating them on how best to care for their symptoms or just by reassuring parents that they’re doing all the right things.”
While Kimberly spent time in Gettysburg during college, she is new to Chambersburg and is looking forward to learning more about the area.
“I grew up in the Philly suburbs but have lived in Hershey for the last six years,” she said. “Once the weather warms up I plan to get outside and explore the area’s trails and parks with my dogs. I also hope to get back to Gettysburg to see how the campus and town has changed.”
When she’s not busy caring for Keystone’s youngest patients, Kimberly stays busy with several hobbies.
“For the last two years I’ve coached field hockey for Hershey’s youth league. I also spend a lot of my free time visiting my family and staying active with my dogs, because tired dogs are better-behaved dogs. I love dogs and currently have five, which is definitely my limit!”
Welcome to Keystone, Kimberly!
