Get to know one of the newest providers at Keystone Pediatric Developmental Center, Occupational Therapist Kaylin Shearer, in our latest Meet The Provider article!
How did you decide to become an Occupational Therapist?
I was introduced to occupational therapy in fifth grade at a parent career day. My friend’s mom was a pediatric outpatient occupational therapist and after her presentation I thought it was the coolest job ever. But, It wasn’t until a few years later when my younger sister was receiving in-school OT that I would fully understand the impact that it can have on someone’s quality of life.
Where did you go to college?
I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate degree and received my Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
What is your favorite part of your job/working in the pediatric occupational therapy field?
As an OT, I enjoy working with patients from all walks of life. But, in my opinion, it is a privilege to be able to experience the world through the eyes of children, teenagers, and young adults. Working with our pediatric patients, I believe the best part is seeing them progress in any way!
Why did you choose to work at Keystone?
The mission of Keystone is what originally drew me here. Then, after spending a day with the staff/patients I knew that I wanted to work here!
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
When I have free time, I love to go on hikes/outdoor walks, read, volunteer, and travel!
Where is your hometown?
I was born and raised in Chambersburg!
What’s a fun fact about yourself, or something people might be surprised to know about you?
I travel to Pittsburgh about every other weekend to either attend a Pitt football game or work at a camp called the Woodlands!
