A childhood experience helped lead Keystone Foot and Ankle’s newest provider, Dr. Camryn Rabourn, to a career as a podiatrist. Learn what sparked his interest, what he is enjoying about Franklin County, and more, in our latest edition of Meet The Provider.
Why did you choose to become a podiatrist?
My interest in podiatry was sparked when I was just a kid. My grandfather was a diabetic who suffered from peripheral vascular disease and pressure ulcers. I remember helping him with his dressing changes and visiting the podiatrist with him to learn the next steps in his care. This was my first encounter with podiatry. When I was in high school, I was very passionate about track and field. I ran short distance races such as the 100m and 200m dash. I was also a pole-vaulter which became a passion of mine. I injured my ankle after completing a vault and landed myself a visit with a podiatrist. He was very thorough in explaining my injury and throughout my healing process. This was my second encounter which sparked my interest further. Finally, throughout my college experience I knew I wanted to go into the medical field, but I didn’t know which branch of medicine I wanted to explore. At the end of my junior year, a podiatrist at the Cleveland Clinic gave a lecture about his field for my medical fraternity Phi Delta Epsilon. I went on to shadow him in both the clinical setting and in the operating room. After this experience, I was convinced that this was the field for me.
Where did you get your degree?
I went to undergraduate college at the University of Akron where I majored in natural sciences with a minor in chemistry. For medical school I attended the Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine.
What’s your favorite part of being a podiatrist?
My favorite part about this job is the immediate patient satisfaction by going the extra mile for them. I believe that people remember you for not only what you are able to do for them, but how you make them feel.
Why did you choose to work at Keystone Health?
I chose Keystone because I believe that care should be provided to everyone who needs it equally, and free of financial barriers. I am excited to start my journey here.
What are your hobbies and interests?
My hobbies outside of work include golfing, hiking, and spending time with my family. My interests include airplanes/jets (airshows), NASA/SpaceX, and traveling.
Where is your hometown, and what are you enjoying about Franklin County so far?
My hometown is Westerville, Ohio, near Columbus. I am new to Franklin County and what I like most is the rural environment with the mountains as well as the amplified sense of community that comes with living in a small town.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
An interesting fact about myself is that I come from a large family with 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
