Get to know Dr. Ashea West, one of our physicians at Keystone Family Medicine – Catherine Street!
How did you decide to become a family medicine physician?
I’ve always wanted to be a family physician once I found out what a family physician does. I wanted to be able to bridge the gap between the doctors and patients. I wanted to let patients know that they should advocate for themselves. I also wanted to educate them on how to take care of themselves in the best way possible.
Where did you go to school?
I went to City College of New York for my Bachelors and St. George’s University in Grenada for medical school.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
I love when I get to talk to my patients and help them understand how they can better improve their health.
Why did you choose to work at Keystone?
I love the mission of Keystone – treating everyone with love and compassion. I also love that they have so many resources available for the patients to benefit from.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I like trying new things – going to adventure parks, museums, new restaurants or whatever fun and interesting opportunities pop up.
Where’s your hometown and what do you like about Franklin County so far?
I am originally from Jamaica but spent most of my college years in New York City. So far, I am loving Franklin County – I appreciate the slower pace where I can be out in nature more.
What’s an interesting fact about yourself, or something people might be surprised to know about you?
One interesting thing about me is that I wrote and published a book called “When All You Have Is Faith” which talks about my journey to becoming a medical doctor.
