Jackie Ulmer has been working at Keystone Health for more than 9 years. She began her career at Keystone Health Crisis Intervention working PRN, or as needed, then later became full time. In 2011 she was promoted to lead crisis intervention specialist and later became the supervisor of the program.
Jackie supervises a very small group of incredibly dedicated, independent, and knowledgeable crisis workers. “I am motivated to come to work every day because of them and their commitment, 24/7, to our mental health community in Franklin and Fulton Counties,” she said. “No day is ever the same. Our patients never present with the same story; every patient is unique and we get to help them at one of their most vulnerable moments. Crisis Intervention provides 24/7 Crisis Hotline support, in addition to managing all behavioral health patients at Waynesboro and Chambersburg emergency rooms. On top of that, we have a walk-in office and can go anywhere in Franklin County to provide mobile services to individuals in the community. “
In addition to managing the Crisis Intervention team, Jackie also works as a full time crisis worker. “I am motivated to come to work every day because we are faced with patients every day experiencing some kind of crisis,” she said. “I want patients to leave the hospital or office feeling like they were cared about and someone helped them through their crisis and guided them in a direction of longer term treatment, whether that is with an inpatient or outpatient referral.”
Jackie says Keystone Health is aware and cares about the mental health community and wants to provide quality care to this population. “Keystone goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone in the community has access to some level of medical care,” she said. “I am proud to say that we help everyone and anyone that reaches out to us. We serve patients who are mentally ill or struggling with addiction and we help them regardless of their appearance, income, or mental status. Mental illness and addiction do not discriminate and we are here, 24/7, to help everyone.”
Jackie lives in Shippensburg with her husband and two children. They are co-owners of Goose Bros. Ice Cream in their hometown. When she’s not spending time with her family, she’s reading or playing volleyball.
