The Keystone Health Employee Spotlight for May shines on Carol Fortney of Keystone Dental Care.
Carol Fortney loves her job. She began working for Keystone Dental Care in December 1999 as a registered dental hygienist. In 2010, she obtained an additional Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner (PHDHP) license.
Carol’s love for patients has made her a friendly face for many at Keystone. “For many people going to the dentist is not easy; it’s scary or embarrassing,” she said. “They come in for their appointments anxious and afraid of pain. I like when I am able to ease their anxieties and gain their confidence—helping them feel comfortable to return for their restorative needs and routine preventive care.”
Carol is proud to work at Keystone because of the health system’s focus on meeting basic preventative needs in health care. “This means a lot to people because most cannot afford care,” she said. “They deal with gingival diseases and tooth pain on a routine basis. We help them receive the care they need, affordably.” Carol is very busy seeing a wide range of patients with different dental needs. “Some are healthy and need routine care, while others are past due by several years or can’t even remember when they last received dental care.”
Carol is married to Mike and together they have two children. The family lives outside of Chambersburg. Carol spends her time with her family at different activities—everything from gardening to drag racing! “I am very happy here and can’t imagine living anywhere else,” she said.
