Get to know one of our newest providers, Tayla Young, who is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Keystone Behavioral Health, in our latest Meet The Provider article!
How did you decide to become a Nurse Practitioner?
I really enjoy learning, and decided to become a Nurse Practitioner after people I am close to were positively impacted by their ability to receive mental health care. I feel honored to be able to help our community meet this vital need.
Where did you go to college?
Walden University
What is your favorite part of working in the mental health field?
I love that the mental health field is very holistic and allows for a great deal of patient autonomy. My patients have a very active say in their treatment plan, I believe in joint decision making.
Why did you choose to work at Keystone?
Many moons ago I was an LPN student and had the opportunity to rotate at a few Keystone sites. I really fell in love with their work culture and their mission. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student, I had the opportunity to learn from providers at Keystone Behavioral Health and again felt humbled and encouraged by the organization’s mission to serve EVERYONE, regardless of their ability to pay. I feel like their heart and their goals for serving our beautiful community and the great people who live here, aligned with my own.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I have a red headed 8-month-old son who is the absolute joy of my life. My husband and I are active in a local church, and I find a lot of comfort from our community. Regardless of your faith background, I hope everyone has access to caring and supportive community, however they come to find that.
My husband and I have an 80-acre beef farm where we pasture raise chickens, cows and sheep. We participate in a local farmers market and have loved building relationships with people from our community in that way.
I am also an avid reader and enjoy mostly historical non-fiction.
Where is your hometown, and if you are new to the area, what do you like about Franklin County so far?
Franklin County is home to me, I enjoy it here and I hope you do too!
What’s an interesting fact about yourself or something people might be surprised to know about you?
When I am not busy farming or working, I enjoy spending time with my NINE siblings, and 6 nieces and nephews.
Welcome to Keystone, Tayla!
